Fed up of having a body that feels weak, fragile, imbalanced, uncoordinated, slow reacting, and unprotected?
If that’s the case..this is the article for you!
This article will present to you why looking after your body is a lot like looking after your car, and why lifting weights is so much more than how it makes you look, weightlifting can sometimes get a negative reputation, that it’s just a bunch of guys trying to show off who’s got the biggest biceps.
It’s not all about how it makes you look in the mirror..even though it’s pretty cool to see that muscle (especially for summer)
I can’t lie, I always feel way more confident on holiday when I have a body that’s got some muscle to it, it makes you feel pretty good at that beach bar sipping a beer or cocktail.
But there’s also three things we can prevent and even reverse with weightlifting, things that we are at an increased risk of developing year after year from not training our bodies sufficiently enough.
Osteoporosis, Sarcopenia & Dynapenia.
You can think of these three things as having a triple car problem, a flat tire, a dead battery and very low oil.
You can imagine with those three problems, your car isn’t going to move very well..or even at all. You need to take time to maintain and look after your car, to make sure you don’t have any of those problems, so your car continues to move well.
Osteoporosis, Sarcopenia and Dynapenia are the human bodies version when you don’t look after it, if you develop all three from not maintaining and looking after your body, you’re eventually going to have some very serious problems.
Osteoporosis is where our bones weaken and lose density. Sarcopenia is a loss of muscle mass, strength and function. Dynapenia is a loss of muscle strength and power.
Put these three together and we have weak, fragile, uncoordinated, slow reacting, and unprotected bodies, it’s a ticking time bomb as to how that could affect our lives in the future, very similar as to what could happen if we don’t look after our cars.
As we age, we need to look after ourselves.
We are given one body in this life, surely you don’t want to take that for granted, wouldn’t you agree?
If we want to keep it moving well, have it feel strong and supported and have a body that doesn’t start crumbling away year after year, we need to do things that challenge the muscles, soft tissues and bones so they adapt to come back stronger, so they can handle the challenges of everyday life.
Combine exercises where you are moving fast and explosive, as well as exercises where you are lifting a weight that’s heavy enough as to where your reps start to slow down at the end.
Do those two things regularly, and you can stay clear of those three nasty conditions year after year.
Examples can be weightlifting, HIIT, or playing fun sports.
